New generation of software-based storage virtualization beats traditional hardware-based competition to win this designation

READING, England — June 29, 2011 – DataCore Software, a leading provider of virtualization software for storage and the proud recipient of five “Finalist” nominations in the 2011 Storage Awards, came up trumps last Thursday with SANsymphony-V taking the top honor in the Storage Virtualization Product of the Year Award category. DataCore’s software-based storage virtualization solution beat traditional hardware and array based offerings to take the main prize. The prestigious Award Ceremony was held at the Grand Connaught Rooms, in London’s Covent Garden.

Keith Joseph, Regional Manager for Northern Europe at DataCore Software, was there to collect the prize in front of the large gathering of solution providers, resellers and members of the UK IT industry, “We are thrilled to have won this award; it recognizes our momentum in the market and it is the second major UK accolade received for DataCore’s new generation of storage virtualization software.”

Announced in January 2011, SANsymphony-V software enables data centers to use existing equipment and conventional storage devices to achieve the robust and responsive shared storage infrastructure necessary to support their highly dynamic, virtual IT environments. This contrasts sharply with the expensive “rip and replace” approaches being proposed to support desktop and server virtualization projects.

Virtualization Projects Have Three Dimensions

“Virtualisation software has revolutionized today’s cost and productivity expectations for server and desktop investments, however the same compelling benefits have until now been limited in their scope and applicability to storage,” adds Joseph. “DataCore’s software approach goes beyond these hardware bound device limitations and makes it easy to manage and optimize storage capacity, performance and data protection across the entire infrastructure. The software is not limited to a single generation of device or brand of storage array. That makes DataCore the logical software choice for getting ‘more from your storage’ and addresses the third dimension of virtualization – with a hardware-independent strategy.”

Nearly 5,000 votes were cast in this year’s competition. Winning the “Storage Virtualization Product of the Year Award” signifies the readers’ appreciation of DataCore’s new virtualization software and how that is taking the market by storm.

The Storage Awards were established in 2004 to recognize best-in-breed, easy-to-use solutions that make the working lives of storage and virtualization managers easier and more effective. This year is the first time the storage virtualization category has been represented at the awards.
